• ABOUT – STUDIO & PRACTICE

A design studio, now practicing AI in earnest.

Ucentix draws on fourteen years of hands-on design and software experience. The organisation was formalised later, but the practice has always been the same: make technology useful enough to earn a place in someone’s day.

Why we pivoted.

For most of the last decade we built UX and product design for startups and enterprises — clean systems, considered flows, software people kept open in a tab. Around 2023 the work changed. Clients started asking for one of two things: an AI feature on top of an existing product, or a way to make sense of the AI tools they’d already bought.

The pattern across both was the same. The model wasn’t the problem. The problem was the workflow around the model — the part our discipline has spent fourteen years on. So we leaned in. We hired engineers, applied scientists and an AI policy lead, and re-shaped the studio around the work that turns AI from a procurement line into a daily habit.

We’re still designers. We just bring more of the system with us now.

• STUDIO ARC

Fourteen years, four chapters.

2012

Design journey begins

Began working deeply in design, product thinking, and software experiences across startup and business contexts.
2015

Studio established

Formalised the studio practice around UX, product design, and the systems needed to make software usable.
2021

Product engineering

Added engineering capability to ship what we designed.

2025

AI practice

Reshaped around the work that turns AI into daily habit.
• WHAT GUIDES THE WORK

Principles we use to keep AI human-sized.

VALUE 01

Human-centred, always

Models are the easy part to fetishise. We begin with the workflow, the pressure points, and the moment a person decides whether a tool belongs in their day.
VALUE 02

Be honest about what's there.

Confidence cues, citations, edit affordances, and visible uncertainty matter. AI that lies smoothly is worse than AI that simply says it does not know yet.
VALUE 03

Ship, then learn.

Real usage is the only signal that matters. We instrument from day one and stay through the next iterations, because the second version is often the one that earns adoption.
VALUE 04

Earn every pixel and prompt.

Restraint is part of design. We prefer fewer surfaces, smaller models, shorter prompts, and quieter notifications that respect attention as well as compute.
• STUDIO LEADERSHIP

The people on the other end of the email.

Founder & principal

STRATEGY · DESIGN
Leads Ucentix end to end, pairing product judgment with fourteen years of design practice.

Head of engineering

SYSTEMS · MODELS
Builds the systems behind the surface, with a focus on retrieval, agents, and observability.

Head of design

UX · INTERACTION
Owns interface and interaction quality, especially the places where trust is won or lost.

AI policy lead

RESPONSIBLE AI
Frames privacy, fairness, and policy constraints so they show up early in the work rather than late.
• WHAT WE BELIEVE

AI is a new material. The job - designing software people choose to use - has not changed at all.
